Long Range Weather Forecast for Borneo June -December 2026

The long range weather forecast for Malaysia will be hot, dry, drought filled, hazy and with water disruptions. This forecast is brought on by the current El Nino forming in the western Pacific. Coupled with the warming caused by climate change, temperatures are expected be the highest on record.

Rainfall predictions are expected to be much lower than normal with the onset of the Southwest monsoon in July and August and the El Nino formation. With less the rain, the river water, where most of Malaysia receives its potable water, will become more concentrated with pollutants as the rivers cannot cleanse themselves. Water behind dams are expected to fall well below normal bringing water rationing.

The conditions will prevail until the start of the Northeast Monsoon sometime in November.

Large reductions of rice production in the Kedah, Perlis, Johor  and Perak regions are expected. Flowering in rice occurs during narrow morning windows and a disruption of this cycle can bring severe damage. Prolonged hot weather followed by sudden rainfall can bring toxic algae blooms harming coastal cage farms.
